Once again life has run ragged and blown holes through my carefully laid plans. Thus my unexpected silence and lack of submissions, not to mention the number of thank yous that have yet to go out. *Sigh* One of these days I will find the pause button on life and then I will be able to finish everything that I need to do in one day!
So what the heck has been happening, you ask? Okay, so you didn't ask but I'm going to tell you anyway, so there! Remember the new kitten that I wrote about in my last journal? She had a contagious disease that quickly spread to all of our other indoor cats. This necessitated many many trips to the vet, new special meds and some interesting daily routines. I'd never heard of Feline Herpes before and apparently it is not something that can be caught in the routine tests like FIV, etc. The thing that fills me with relief is that Feline Herpes is not life threatening as long as I keep on top of it. There is one lovely kick in the pants to add spice - I am allergic to the medicine that I have to give to 6 cats twice a day! If I touch the pills I break out in rashes all over my hands and arms. My brilliant solution was to give the cats their meds with chopsticks. At first they were extremely suspicious but now they are used to it and most will actually eat the pill directly from the sticks which is actually kind of cool.
Then there were the holidays which were wonderful and filled with incredible memories. I loved every minute but it was quite hectic and I was lucky to get through it with my head still attached.
We started out the New Year with a trip to Birmingham, AL and then a trip to Charlotte, NC for IchibanCon! That was one of the best and most friendly conventions that I've ever attended and I am hoping wildly that I will be able to go back next year.
